As the year races to conclusion, my thoughts about the sports world tend to depress me. The instances of child abuse amid the veil of a sports foundation and the downfall of a coach such as Joe Patero who should be ranked among the Staggs and Rocknes of coaching is indeed sad. To turn Paterno 's work turning out men of character over the years into a well of deceit based on association with a person of questionable character is very sad. Then to see money continue to be the driving force in sport is another cancer on the athletic world I believe. The NBA lockout and college programs tainted by agents and the lure of the greenback. I was taught that the mere joy of participating in any sport was an honor, although you knew you would never make a dime from doing it. As we ring in 2012, hopefully the ethics of sport will spring up and wash over this muck. I can only hope.

Well, it seems eBay is determined to challenge China as the biggest seller of counterfeit goods on the planet. Now they let schmucks steal copyrighted material and make those who challenge them to prove that sellers are criminally in the wrong. Guess they are still trying to recoup Meg Whitman's political losses by raking in profits of illegal merchandise sales. Graphic artists and teams should be on the lookout on eBay for illegal items.

Some of these new helmet/uniform combos that college football teams are wearing this fall are a bit over the top. I liked Maryland's state flag helmet, it was different although the flat colored helmet with flag stripe is a downgrade. I liked Michigan's throwback look but what the heck was Michigan State trying to pull. They looked like they were ready to go on maneuvers with the 82nd Airborne.

Finally, things have been hectic the last 6 months or so here in North Carolina. We've had tornadoes, flooding from a hurricane and even a drought to contend with. Hope the winter is just cold.

It seems eBay has ventured into the dark side. Once the online auction site was the graphic artist and minor league's best friend when it came to stopping the sale of unlicensed and counterfeit merchandise. Logoshak has stopped the sale of our marks in the not so distant past on items ranging from clothing to clocks. Now eBay not only doesn't stop the sale of counterfeit items anymore, it seemingly promotes it. Don't know why they permit and profit from such illegal activity. Maybe they are trying to recoup Meg Whitman's campaign losses. We are just a very little David going against a very big Goliath. But we plan on fighting this in any way we can.

Some of the new college football uniforms coming out look like something George's boy Elroy would wear. What happened to just a jersey with a number on the front and back. Now they are color correct with the players biography on the back. Well maybe not that bad, but you get it. As long as Nike, Under Armour and Adidas have their way, the unis will be the show and not the players.

I took a few days to gather my thoughts about the untimely death of Lorenzo Charles. Lo will always be remembered for the last second dunk that allowed NC State to upset Houston for the 1983 NCAA Championship. He always was humble about the "dunk" that forever will place him and Coach Jim Valvano in the annals of sports history. Lo chased his basketball dream in Europe until his body gave out. He came home to Raleigh and without a degree, worked as a driver for a limo company for 10 years. He was killed in a bus he was driving in a crash on the Interstate outside of Raleigh. Lo will leave behind a legacy of being a class A person and forever in the hearts of Carolina sports fans. I am sure God has himself a great driver and friend now.

Had a day to think about the 2012 class of the NASCAR Hall of Fame. I've only been truly passionate about 2 drivers in my life, Fred Lorenzen and Darrell Waltrip. Well, old DW made it in yesterday. But two guys who better make the 2013 ballot are Smokey Yunick and Tim Richmond. Smokey was one of the great seat of your pants mechanics ever. Richmond was the greatest all around pure driver I ever saw. Wake up people and put these guys in, at least on the ballot.

NASCAR announced the inductees for the 2012 Hall of Fame this afternoon. Cale Yarborough, Darrell Waltrip, Dale Inman, Richie Evans and Glen Wood had their names called. I can say that I got the opportunity to watch all these guys drive or crew chief cars. Cale and Darrell probably more than anyone, helped to take the sport to a higher level. Dale Inman pushed cousin Richard Petty to seven championships. Richie Evans was the greatest modified driver I ever saw. Glen Wood and his family team won championships. The voters elected a fair class and one that was deserving. Just hoping my hometown hero, Herb Thomas makes the next class.

With the hot temperatures signalling the start of summer, the lakes and rivers will be filling up with boaters and swimmers. Be careful! Each summer drowning claims far too many victims.

Remember, do a kid a favor, take em' fishing.

Well, we have pretty well gotten over the tornadoes that sweep through here this past weekend. There isn't much you can do but ride out the fury of the wind associated with something like this. Our power was out for a day or so, and that was a bite. They say that this was a once in a lifetime event. Sure hope so!

One of the most disturbing sports events lately was the takeover of the Los Angeles Dodgers by MLB. A franchise that has to rank among the elite of all pro sports is now left in flux by dishonest owners. I am sure someone with deep pockets will help restore this franchise to it's former glory.

Well, I can feel the new baseball season coming on. After the Steelers win another Super Bowl, we can look forward to Spring training to come on. Doesn't seem to be as much high profiled free agency this winter, but that might be a good thing. My early call is the Angels and Phillies in the Series.

The sports memorabilia market is starting to heat up. As the economy heats up, demand for game worn uniforms and baseball/football items does too. That's a plus for collectors such as myself.

We have submitted records and evidence that the Shak has been victim of hijacks and hacking of our DNS and IP signals. If you can't beat us than I guess talentless boneheads will try illegal methods of patting their inferior product. Be cool.
