I took a few days to gather my thoughts about the untimely death of Lorenzo Charles. Lo will always be remembered for the last second dunk that allowed NC State to upset Houston for the 1983 NCAA Championship. He always was humble about the "dunk" that forever will place him and Coach Jim Valvano in the annals of sports history. Lo chased his basketball dream in Europe until his body gave out. He came home to Raleigh and without a degree, worked as a driver for a limo company for 10 years. He was killed in a bus he was driving in a crash on the Interstate outside of Raleigh. Lo will leave behind a legacy of being a class A person and forever in the hearts of Carolina sports fans. I am sure God has himself a great driver and friend now.
