The insane salary war continues in major league baseball. The New York Yankees sign fading slugger Gary Sheffield Wednesday to a mere $39 million contract. I may be wrong but Sheffield can't throw the split fingered fastball on the corners and this is what the Yanks truly need. Pitching. There aren't too many throwers left out there on the free agent menu, so I look for the Bronx crowd to be looking to swing a trade. Bernie Williams may be trade material after his soft season last year. Would George be willing to bite the bullet and maybe part with captain Jeter in a multi-player bombshell? Certainly the hot stove will be heating up this winter as the Yanks play catchup with the Red Sox.
