Had a day to think about the 2012 class of the NASCAR Hall of Fame. I've only been truly passionate about 2 drivers in my life, Fred Lorenzen and Darrell Waltrip. Well, old DW made it in yesterday. But two guys who better make the 2013 ballot are Smokey Yunick and Tim Richmond. Smokey was one of the great seat of your pants mechanics ever. Richmond was the greatest all around pure driver I ever saw. Wake up people and put these guys in, at least on the ballot.

NASCAR announced the inductees for the 2012 Hall of Fame this afternoon. Cale Yarborough, Darrell Waltrip, Dale Inman, Richie Evans and Glen Wood had their names called. I can say that I got the opportunity to watch all these guys drive or crew chief cars. Cale and Darrell probably more than anyone, helped to take the sport to a higher level. Dale Inman pushed cousin Richard Petty to seven championships. Richie Evans was the greatest modified driver I ever saw. Glen Wood and his family team won championships. The voters elected a fair class and one that was deserving. Just hoping my hometown hero, Herb Thomas makes the next class.

With the hot temperatures signalling the start of summer, the lakes and rivers will be filling up with boaters and swimmers. Be careful! Each summer drowning claims far too many victims.
