Another character in baseball's steroid era has lifted his ugly head. Mark McGwire admitted he used steroids and other performance enhancing drugs over a 10 year period. Does this make it okay to lie to the public and break records he otherwise would not have? How does the family and fans of Roger Maris feel to have his records and memory defiled. Shouldn't Major League Baseball put an asterick or something beside the records of anyone who used steroids during this period of baseball history? Doesn't this continue to bring the professional in Professional Sports in question to the public? It continues to cast a long dark shadow across all playing fields.
Another embarrassment was revealed over the winter. That of Tiger Woods and the question of whether privacy is granted to anyone who takes millions in endorsement money based on his integrity and market value. Tiger, you fooled me with your sterling image and golfing ability. But you threw your right to privacy out the window when you signed that first endorsement contract. Don't know if you can ever regain the public's trust by hiding behind a cloak of "privacy". This may be one sand trap you can't pitch out of.
